The BMC is yet to implement its plan of holding special vaccine camps for the staff of city’s restaurants. The administration had asked all the ward offices to send in data of all the employees last month. However, the BMC has now appealed citizens to send in information about bedridden people through email to get them vaccinated instead.

On June 4, the civic body had sent a letter to all the 24 ward offices, aiming to collect contact numbers of workers at restaurants and hotels by June 7. The letter mentioned that vaccinating these workers was necessary and that their contact details be given separately for the 18 to 44 age group and 45 to 60 age group. “The initiative was taken to allow the restaurants to resume service. It would help the workers as well as customers,” said a BMC officer.

But as the vaccination for above 18 years started from June 21, the plans took a backseat. “As the vaccination for those above 18 years of age started, many restaurants arranged special camps with private hospitals to get their workers inoculated. As of now, we haven’t received further information about the camps from the headquarters,” said Kiran Dighavkar, officer of G North ward.

The BMC is now collecting data to vaccinate bedridden citizens, after the high court’s directions. The BMC appealed to citizens to send complete information for getting preventive vaccination for those who are bedridden due to physical/medical reasons, including illness and age. “People need to send the patient’s name, age, address, number, the reason for the illness of the bedridden person who wants to be vaccinated. The email has to be sent to covidvacc2bedridden@gmail.com,” said a BMC officer.
