The new year of 2026 seems to have brought some good news for folks at Govandi’s Natwar Parekh Compound. The Govandi Arts Festival has been selected under the Secular Arts Collective, and is the only collective chosen, to be part of the Students’ Biennale section of the ongoing Kochi Biennale. “[The collective] stands out as an anomaly, as it is not institution-based.

The exhibition includes three photography works by Govandi youth from the 2025 festival, drawn from the exhibition Khuli Kitab. It also features a tapestry mapping the neighbourhood titled Har Gali Ek Gaon. Eight to nine films created during the 2023 and 2025 editions, as well as the book, Awaaz, will be part of the exhibition,” shared co-founder and curator Natasha Sharma (left).
