A fire broke out on Friday morning at a shop located in Marol’s Ashok Nagar area of Andheri East, officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

According to the BMC’s Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported at 8:10 am from Military Road, near Ashok Tower, at KDN Compound. The blaze was confined to a closed galla (shop) situated on the ground floor of a ground-plus-one structure.


Firefighting teams from the MFB, along with the local police, Adani electricity staff, 108 ambulance service, and ward personnel, were promptly mobilised to the spot. The fire was classified as Level-I — the lowest category of fire emergencies — and was brought under control shortly after the response teams arrived.



No injuries or casualties were reported in the incident, officials confirmed.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Fire at residential building in Mumbai; two persons suffer from suffocation

In another case, two persons suffered from suffocation after a fire broke out in a seven-storey residential building in Mumbai early on October 15, civic officials said.

The blaze was reported in a flat on the second floor of Atul Cooperative Housing Society Ltd at Siddharth Nagar in Goregaon area at 3.53 am, they said.

The fire brigade rushed to the spot and doused the blaze by 4.15 am, a civic official said.

Two persons -- Rameela Saha (65) and Krunal Saha (40) -- suffered from suffocation due to the smoke. They were admitted to the Kokilaben Hospital and their condition was stable, the official said.

The fire was confined to the electric wiring, installations, an air-conditioning unit, household articles, wooden furniture, mattresses, and books in a bedroom of the second-floor flat, as per the officials.

The cause of the fire was not yet known, they said.

This was the second fire incident reported on Wednesday in the metropolis, after a blaze at the popular Crawford Market in south Mumbai.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a couple of shops at the popular Crawford Market in south Mumbai in the wee hours of Wednesday, civic officials said.

No one was injured in the incident, they said.

The blaze was reported in the market, located on L T Road, at 2.13 am, the officials said.

The fire spread to a couple of shops in the market before it was doused around 4 am, a fire brigade official said.

The blaze caused damage to the electric wiring and installations, an AC unit, a TV set, ceiling fan, a CCTV camera, wooden furniture, and a stock of pet food and plastic sheets, a civic official said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the official added.

The Crawford Market, situated opposite the Mumbai Police headquarters, is one of the most famous and busiest markets in the city.
