After students from Jai Hind College complained about R1,000 being charged for the new Wi-Fi facility provided by the college, Joint Director of Education Shailendra Deolankar wrote to the registrar asking for an inquiry committee to be formed to examine the issue. Under the Prohibition of Anti-capitation Act, 1987, the state prohibits colleges from charging extra fees from students.

The committee is to be instated soon and will comprise a team of officials and a government representative. “I have recently received the letter so the procedure will start soon. Since it is a very recent issue, we will take at least a fortnight to take any action. If at all any adverse remarks are there, we will take strict action,” said MA Khan, registrar at Mumbai University.
