In an unexpected incident, a 28-year-old woman passenger sustained a head injury after being struck by a stone while travelling in a local train. According to reports, the woman was hit by a stone hurled at her near Reay Road station on Thursday evening. The incident took place around 7:15 pm when train GO 65 was en route, and the passenger was standing at the door of the ladies’ coach on the guard side.
Officials identified the injured woman as Shivani, a resident of Parel Village. She was suddenly hit by a stone as the train crossed Reay Road. Shivani was assisted at Cotton Green station, where she received immediate first aid. After arriving at Cotton Green, she was soon shifted to KEM Hospital by the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further medical treatment.
After receiving information, IPF/VDLR SN Singh, accompanied by ASI M.M. Beg and Constable Arvind Yadav, rushed to the spot. Later, ASC Dadar inspected the location and ordered a detailed inquiry by the Vadala Inspector to trace those allegedly pelting stones at running trains. Following the inspection, the site was thoroughly checked by railway staff; however, no suspicious individuals or slum settlements were noticed near the track.
Local residents nearby were gathered and questioned regarding the incident. While they were warned about the dangers of stone pelting, none claimed to have witnessed anyone throwing stones at the train.
Train guard Dashrath Aryan confirmed that although the passenger appeared to have been struck by a stone, no damage was observed to the train itself.
Railway authorities have raised concern over recurring risks caused by stone-pelting incidents, which jeopardize passenger safety. Coordination is ongoing with GRP Vadala for the registration of a case and identification of the culprits.
