The National Security Guard (NSG) on Saturday announced that it will organise a special Cyclothon in Mumbai on October 12, to honour the memory of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Ashok Chakra awardee, who laid down his life during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
The event will also promote awareness about cervical cancer and general fitness, acting as the curtain raiser for the NSG Raising Day celebrations.
Organised by the 26 Special Composite Group (SCG) of NSG, the 100-kilometre Cyclothon will begin at 7 am on Sunday from Gateway of India and pass through various parts of the city. Over 250 professional cyclists along with NSG personnel will take part, highlighting themes of discipline, fitness, unity, and national duty, an official statement said.
As part of the awareness drive, two street plays on cervical cancer prevention will be staged at key locations along the route. These performances aim to educate the public on women's health in an engaging and accessible manner, it said.

An NSG spokesperson said that this initiative reflects the force's commitment not just to national security, but also to public health and social outreach.
