Heavy rainfall brought the Maximum City to a standstill on Monday, with the as the monsoon shows no signs of abating. The India Meteorological Department, has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of “heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places”.
In just four hours (8am to 12pm), Chembur, Worli and Dadar recorded 100+ mm rainfall. Topping the chart was the Chembur Fire Station, which logged a staggering 140.80 mm, followed closely by the Rainfall Pipeline Workshop in Dadar at 139.60 mm.
All schools and colleges in the city remain closed for the second session (post 12 noon) today, to ensure student safety. Amid the downpour, a Don Bosco School bus got stuck in severe waterlogging near Matunga Police Station. Inside the bus, six children, two lady staff members, and the driver were trapped for nearly an hour and later rescued by the police.
In Thane, too, holidays have been declared on Monday and Tuesday for all pre-primary, primary, secondary, and higher secondary students across managements and mediums in schools under the civic corporation area.
The Municipal Commissioner has directed all civic departments to remain on high alert.
Citizens are advised to step out only if absolutely necessary.

Traffic diversions
The heavy rains have caused multiple traffic diversions across the city. Some of the key diversions include:
Sangam Nagar: Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses running on routes 110 and 117 were curtailed at Hanuman Mandir
Gandhi Market (UP/North Direction): Routes 66, A92, A351, A357, 521, 368 diverted via Bhau Gaji Road
RCF Railway Bridge: Routes 430 and 363 diverted via RC Road
Shell Colony: Routes 360, 355, 357 diverted via Chembur Naka
Shivsrushti/Nehru Nagar ST Depot: Routes 5, 59, 85, 60, 58 diverted via SG Barve Marg
CGS Colony: Routes 14, 15, 172, 341, 181, 175 diverted via Shaikh Mistry Dargah Road
BA Road at Hindmata (Down/South Direction): Routes 368, C40 diverted via Bhowiwada
Train delays
Rail commuters also faced disruptions. Trains between Dadar and Matunga were halted, forcing passengers to disembark after waiting for approximately 20 minutes. At Dadar platform nine, a train bound for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) was delayed for over 25 minutes. While Western Railway services have been running without any water-logging issues, Central Railway’s harbour and main line has been delayed but there is no suspension of service anywhere so far.
Flights diversions
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has issued a passenger advisory amid heavy rainfall, warning of potential delays.
“Due to inclement weather and forecast of heavy rain, passengers are requested to connect with their respective airlines to check on the status of their flights before leaving for the airport,” the statement read.
On Monday so far, the airport recorded nine go-arounds and one flight diversion due to low runway visibility. Indigo flight 6E6468 from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, scheduled to take off at 10.07 am, was diverted to Surat and landed at 11,35 am. Airlines have appealed to passengers to arrive earlier than usual to allow sufficient time for security and boarding.
They have also issued statements alerting passengers about possible disruptions due to the persistent downpour.
