Rains lashed parts of Mumbai and its adjoining areas on Friday evening as the city witnessed thunderstorm and lightning.

Thunderstorms developed over areas near Mumbai on Friday evening, with weather officials predicting that parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai were likely to experience rain later in the day.


Some areas in Mumbai witnessed heavy downpours and strong winds.



The city had witnessed similar weather conditions on Tuesday and Thursday.

The IMD had issued a nowcast warning on Thursday evening. It said that that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph very likely in Mumbai, Thane, Sindhudurg, Satara, Solapur, Kolhapur, Pune in Maharashtra.

Residents were advised to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier in the day predicted a partly cloudy sky with chances of thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, and gusty winds across and adjoining areas on Friday.

A yellow alert was issued for Mumbai and its adjoining areas including Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra.

The weather department had earlier in the day warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.

According to the IMD officials, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar were expected to witness light to moderate rainfall.

The officials stated that parts of Maharashtra including Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg may experience similar weather conditions.

Meanwhile, Mumbai's Colaba recorded a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius with 9 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, while Santacruz recorded 27 degrees Celsius with no rainfall.

In Ratnagiri, the minimum temperature was 24.3 degrees Celsius with 17.2 millimetres of rainfall and 84 per cent humidity, whereas Mahabaleshwar remained cooler at 18 degrees Celsius, blanketed in fog, and received 25.8 millimetres of rainfall.

Further inland, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius, 90 per cent humidity, and 18.3 millimetres of rainfall. Matheran reported 19 degrees Celsius, 84 per cent humidity, and 3.8 millimetres of rainfall, while Malegaon remained dry at 22.6 degrees Celsius with 90 per cent humidity.

Across other parts of Maharashtra and Goa, widespread cloudiness with isolated light to moderate rain was observed.
