A 45-year-old Kanjurmarg-based schoolteacher has alleged that she was cheated of Rs 8 lakh after being lured with the promise of an MMRDA flat in Vikhroli. The complainant, who lives with her 22-year-old son, had been searching for a house when she came in contact with the accused.

According to the police, one of the accused, Sunit Natkar, who was known to the complainant, introduced two men — Govinda Chittadhikari and Mustaq Jilani Shaikh — as property facilitators claiming to have links within government offices.

The trio allegedly assured the victim that they could secure an MMRDA flat through official channels, thereby gaining her trust.

To make the deal appear legitimate, the accused allegedly took the complainant to an MMRDA office where her biometric details were collected. She was later handed purported allotment letters, which police suspect were forged.

Police said the complainant allegedly paid Rs 8 lakh between January and February 2021 through cash and cheques. Despite repeated follow-ups, the flat was never handed over, and the accused allegedly started avoiding her.

According to the police, the accused continued to promise possession and issued documents claiming allotment. The FIR was registered after the complainant realised the documents were forged and that she had been cheated.

Police said the complainant approached the Kanjurmarg police station in July 2025, following which a preliminary inquiry was conducted. Based on the findings, the complaint was converted into an FIR on Monday.
