The Khar police have arrested three transgenders who allegedly attempted to extort Rs 15,000 from a delivery executive by threatening to report a false molestation case against him. Police have identified the accused as Sandhya Pradhan, Nagendra Sardar, and Kavita Kadam.
Police said that the incident took place on May 24 at around 8.45 pm near Carter Road in Bandra West, when the victim, a 29-year-old resident of Santacruz, was making a delivery. According to the police, the victim needed to relieve himself and could not find a public toilet nearby, so he walked into the nearby mangroves along a pathway near Carter Road.
“At that moment, three transgender individuals approached him and started demanding money, and the victim willingly offered them Rs 500, but when they refused, he offered Rs 1,000. However, the three demanded Rs 15,000. When he refused to give money, the three started creating a scene and threatened to tear their clothes and falsely accuse him of molestation.”
Frightened, the victim approached patrolling police officers nearby and informed them about the incident. Acting on his information, the police detained the three transgender individuals and brought them to the Khar police station.
“We have arrested the three transgender individuals and registered an FIR against them under sections 3(5), 308(2), and 351(2) of the BNS Act," Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Kamble of Khar police station told mid-day.
