In a major step toward advancing research and skill development in cutting-edge technologies, the University of Mumbai is set to inaugurate its Centre of Excellence in Robotics and Automation at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in Kalyan on Thursday, July 10.

The state-of-the-art facility, spread across approximately 45,000 sq. ft, has been established in collaboration with Zenyutek Industries, a leading firm in the robotics sector. It will function as a hub for research, development, and training in robotics, artificial intelligence, and industrial automation.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at 10:00 AM and will be graced by Prof. Rajnish Kamat, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, as the Chief Guest. Prof. Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University, will preside over the function. Several dignitaries, including Thane District Collector Ashok Shingare, Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Commissioner Abhinav Goyal, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ajay Bhamre, and Registrar Dr. Prasad Karande, are expected to attend.

To complement the launch of the centre, the University is introducing a new two-year full-time postgraduate program—M.Tech in Robotics and Automation—from the current academic year. The course will offer hands-on training in advanced robotic systems and create opportunities for students and researchers to engage in real-world applications in robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence.

The centre also aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry by conducting workshops, seminars, and training sessions for students, researchers, and professionals. In partnership with Zenyutek Industries, the university will offer jointly certified training programs in robotics programming and operator-level training, helping upskill both young engineers and the existing industrial workforce.

On the same day, the Vipassana Meditation Centre at the Kalyan campus will also be inaugurated. Developed under the PM-USHA scheme, the modern and well-equipped facility will support both academic pursuits and mental well-being.

From this academic year, the University's Department of Pali will offer two new one-year diploma courses at the centre: one in Pariyatti and Patipatti in Pali Literature, and another in Vipassana Meditation as Seen in Pali Literature. These programs aim to combine academic knowledge of Buddhist texts with practical meditation techniques.

With these parallel initiatives, Mumbai University continues its commitment to fostering innovation, academic excellence, and holistic development.
