According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Mumbai and its suburbs can expect a generally cloudy sky with intermittent light to moderate rainfall throughout Thursday.

According to tide forecasts, a high tide of 4.18 meters is expected at 12:03 PM, followed by a low tide of 2.03 meters at 6:10 PM. Another high tide of 3.60 meters is predicted around 11:50 PM.

The next low tide is scheduled for 5:40 AM on Friday, measuring 0.66 meters. Citizens, especially those living in low-lying areas, are advised to stay alert during high tide periods, as heavy rainfall during these times can lead to waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

Lake levels in seven reservoirs supplying water to Mumbai surge to 73.50 per cent

As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the total water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai reached 10,63,814 million litres on Tuesday. This is 73.50 per cent of the total required stock for the season.

The lakes received a total rainfall of 694 mm in the last 24 hours, with 8.00 mm recorded at the Bhandup Complex alone. Modak Sagar has reached full capacity with a storage of 1,28,925 million litres and 100 per cent useful content, while Upper Vaitarna is at 74.02 per cent with 1,68,080 million litres. Bhatsa holds the highest stock among the lakes, with 4,54,810 million litres at 63.43 per cent capacity.

Middle Vaitarna follows with 1,80,044 million litres, or 93.22 per cent of its useful capacity. Tansa, Vehar, and Tulsi lakes are at 78.76 per cent, 48.36 per cent and 49.22 per cent, respectively.

Notably, Modak Sagar began overflowing on July 9 at 6:27 AM, while water release from Upper Vaitarna began on July 5, and Middle Vaitarna gate numbers 1 and 5 were opened on July 7.

The combined storage in Upper Vaitarna, Tansa, and Middle Vaitarna totals 5,91,640 million litres, or 85.18 per cent of the group’s capacity. These figures indicate that Mumbai’s water reservoirs are in a healthy position midway through the monsoon.
