Mumbaikars woke up to sunny skies and hot, humid conditions on Monday. Both the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Colaba and Santacruz observatories recorded dry and humid weather.
According to the latest Mumbai weather updates from IMD, Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees Celsius above normal, while the minimum temperature stood at 26.5 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity was measured at 92 per cent.
In Santacruz, the mercury rose slightly higher, with a maximum temperature of 35.8 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees Celsius above normal, and a minimum of 25.1 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were recorded at 71 per cent.
Despite the relatively high humidity, no rainfall was observed at either observatory.
City's AQI in 'moderate' category
On October 20, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality remained in the 'moderate' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 185 at 9:30 AM.
As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed 'moderate' AQI. Vasai recorded 'good' air quality with an AQI of 93. Colaba, Worli, Borivali, Kandivali and Ghatkopar recorded 'moderate' air quality, with an AQI of 131, 106, 160, 156 and 183, respectively.
Meanwhile, Vile Parle, Mazgaon, Andehri and Malad recorded 'poor' air quality, with an AQI of 258, 233, 249 and 208, respectively.
Bandra Kurla Complex recorded 'very poor' are air quality, with an AQI of 331.
According to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the 'moderate' category with an AQI of 191, while Thane registered a 'moderate' AQI of 140.
The air quality index from 0 to 100 is considered 'good', 100 to 200 'moderate', 200 to 300 'poor', 300 to 400 'very poor' and from 400 to 500 or above 'severe'.
Meanwhile, Delhi woke up to a layer of smog on Diwali morning with the city's air quality index (AQI) slipping into the "very poor" category, as it crossed the 300-mark. According to the SAMEER app by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi recorded an overall AQI of 339 at 9 am. Data from around 38 monitoring stations showed that most parts of the city reported air quality levels above 300. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 414, and Wazirpur 412, both being among the stations where air quality remained in the "severe" category.
