The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a 'yellow alert' for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and some other parts of Maharashtra, predicting thunderstorm and rains.

In a Mumbai weather update bulletin, the IMD stated that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places were very likely.


A similar alert was also issued for adjoining Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra.


A weather alert for Friday, May 16 was issued for Mumbai and the IMD predicted that light to moderate rain along with thundershowers were very likely in parts of the city. 

A yellow alert was issued for Thane district for May 16.

The IMD also predicted thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds at isolated places in Ratnagiri, Raigad, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur and Nanded.

The IMD, on Thursday issued an 'orange alert' for Pune, Satara, Sangli, and Beed districts in state. 

In a weather bulletin, issued earlier in the day on May 15, the IMD predicted that the city was likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds.

According to the weather department, Mumbai was expected to experience a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of a light rain on Thursday, May 15. Temperatures were expected to range from a cool 26 degrees Celsius in the morning to a warm 34 degrees Celsius during the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Santacruz observatory in suburban Mumbai on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26.0 degrees Celsius.

The weather department's data showed that the city observatory in Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 34.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 27.0 degrees Celsius.

The IMD's forecast stated that "partly cloudy sky with possibility of light rain" for Mumbai and its suburbs over the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, on May 15, the Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city's air quality remained in the 'good' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 88 at 9:05 AM.

As per the SAMEER app dashboard, many areas across Mumbai showed 'good' AQI. Borivali recorded 'good' air quality with an AQI of 50. Byculla, Malad and Kandivali recorded 'good' air quality with an AQI of 52, 93 and 49, respectively. 

Chembur, Sewri and Mulund recorded 'good' air quality, with an AQI of 82, 76 and 63, respectively.

The Bandra Kurla Complex recorded 'moderate' air quality, with an AQI of 138.
