The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday announced that controlled feeding of pigeons will now be allowed at four new locations across the city, for two hours daily from 7 am to 9 am.

The decision comes as the civic body continues to enforce its ban on feeding pigeons at 50 existing Kabutarkhanas.

The civic body said that all existing Kabutarkhanas will remain closed.

Each zone in Mumbai has been allocated one new pigeon feeding area:

- Worli Reservoir in South Mumbai (G/North ward)

- Lokhandwala Back Road, near Versova Sewage Treatment Plant, Andheri West (Western suburbs)

- Old Airoli-Mulund Octroi Naka, Airoli-Mulund Link Road, Mulund (Eastern suburbs)

- Gorai Maidan, Borivali West (Western suburbs for North Mumbai)

The Mumbai civic body said that the four new locations are an interim measure, pending a detailed report from the expert committee appointed by the Bombay High Court.

"Those wishing to feed pigeons at these sites must apply for permission and take responsibility for maintaining the areas," an official statement said.

The civic body has also outlined key conditions for the feeding:

- Feeding must not disturb traffic or residential areas.

- Feeding is allowed only between 7 am and 9 am.

- The designated organisations must maintain cleanliness and install plaques to raise awareness about public health and safety.

The official statement said that the BMC received 9,779 suggestions, objections, and complaints from citizens regarding Kabutarkhanas, covering issues such as closures, maintenance, and controlled feeding.

It said that the permission for these four sites is being granted as an interim measure, pending the report of the expert committee and the court order.
