The body of Rohit Arya, who was shot dead by the Mumbai police after he held 17 people, including 16 minors, hostage in Powai, was first taken to SevenHills Hospital and later shifted to Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackrey (HBT) Trauma Care Hospital, Jogeshwari. As of Thursday night, his body remained at HBT Hospital.

Authorities said the body is likely to be moved to JJ Hospital either late Thursday night or by Friday morning for a postmortem examination. According to hospital officials, the postmortem will be conducted at JJ Hospital and video recorded to ensure full transparency. However, senior JJ Hospital officials told mid-day that they have not yet received formal communication regarding the transfer.

“Generally, in such cases, we are informed in advance so security arrangements can be made. However, no official intimation has been received yet,” said a senior doctor from JJ Hospital. Meanwhile, heavy police deployment was seen outside HBT Trauma Care Hospital on Thursday evening. The situation remained tense but under control, with additional police personnel stationed both inside and outside the premises to manage crowds and maintain law and order.

Hospital sources confirmed that the emergency department has been partially shut, with only major trauma cases being accepted. “Minor injuries and casualty cases are being redirected for now. Only serious emergencies are being admitted,” said a senior hospital staff member.

To avoid overcrowding, hospital authorities have also restricted visitor access. Under the new protocol, only two family members are issued a single gate pass, and just one is permitted inside the ward at a time. The tightened security follows a steady rise in the number of visitors and onlookers after Arya’s death, prompting the hospital administration to streamline entry and movement within the premises.
