Former Punjab DGP S S Virk is likely to succeed A N Roy as Maharashtra police chief, following Mumbai High Court's ruling to set aside latter's appointment as Maharashtra's Director General of Police.

"Virk, who along with IPS officers Suprakash Chakravarti and J D Virkar, were senior to Roy, may be the State Government's choice for the DGP's post," a senior Mantralaya official said.
However, final decision on the issue would be taken only after the Government makes up its mind on whether to approach Supreme Court over the court ruling.
