The All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) has welcomed the recent US-Iran ceasefire, describing it as a victory for Iran and calling the country a “superpower”. Leaders said Tehran stood firm against US and Israeli pressure during the nearly 40-day conflict and dictated terms of the ceasefire

THE All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB), which had been criticising the US-Israel attacks on Shia-majority Iran, welcomed the ceasefire on Wednesday, stating that Iran is now a “superpower”. Since the beginning of the war, AISPLB had been protesting against attacks on Iran, particularly on the assassination of supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Speaking with mid-day, AISPLB Board Secretary Maulana Yasub Abbas said, “US President Donald Trump gave a deadline to Iran and then came a ceasefire. This shows Iran is not Venezuela or just another country that will seize before the two world superpowers — the US and Israel. With this ceasefire announcement, Iran is now a ‘superpower’ that did not bow down to attacks and threats from the US and Israel.”
According to Abbas, he was in contact with Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the India representative of Iran’s supreme leader, before the US deadline and saw videos of Iranians on the streets refusing to be threatened by US attacks.
Abbas added that Iran was never scared of the larger armies or weapons of the US and Israel, and that the Iranian government, military, and people drew inspiration from Imam Hussain and the historic Battle of Karbala.

Meeting in Lucknow
Following the ceasefire announcement, AISPLB held a meeting at the Shia Degree College on Victoria Street in Lucknow. It was presided over by Board President Maulana Syed Saim Mehdi Naqvi, and Board Secretary Maulana Yasub Abbas addressed those present. The Board extended congratulations to Iran on what it described as a remarkable victory against the US and Israel. “Iran has emerged as a rising global power. During the conflict, Iran always respected international law and humanitarian principles, and never targeted schools or hospitals,” an AISPLB statement read.
Tribute to Ali Khamenei
Board President Maulana Saim Mehdi Naqvi paid tribute to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and all Iranians who lost their lives in the conflict, “particularly schoolchildren who were targeted by the US”. He said, “Iran is a peaceful nation. It was forced into conflict by the US and Israel, who used their regional bases to try to destroy the country. Iran faced the war with patience and has now emerged as a victor.”
‘A strategic victory’
Mumbai-based India Iran Friendship Forum founder, Feroze Mithiborwala, called the ceasefire Iran’s strategic victory. “Iran’s strategic victory in the 40-day war marks a definitive shift in the global balance of power. By adopting an indigenous military strategy of asymmetric warfare — utilising advanced drones and missiles to which the US-Israeli axis had no effective counter — Iran has altered the nature of modern conflict. Through the unprecedented mobilisation of 14 million volunteers to defend critical infrastructure, President Masoud Pezeshkian successfully called out the ‘maximum pressure’ bluff, forcing a recalibration of West Asian security and a retreat of US power.”

‘Ceasefire on Iran’s terms’
The Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai said that Tehran had already rejected Washington’s 15-point proposal and tied any ceasefire to its own terms. “In the end, it wasn’t Iran adjusting; it was Trump signing onto Iran’s framework,” an official statement read.
An official statement from Iran's foreign ministry, attributed to Foreign Affairs Minister Seyed Abbas Aragħchi, said, “I express gratitude and appreciation for my dear brothers, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, for their tireless efforts to end the war in the region. If attacks against Iran are halted, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations. For a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran's Armed Forces and with due consideration of technical limitations.”
