In the Nalasopara murder case of 32-year-old Vijay Chauhan, his wife, Chaman Chauhan, has confessed to the police that it was she who committed the crime. According to her statement, she strangled Vijay while he was asleep, following a heated argument. She said that Vijay had hit her with a mobile charger wire, which sparked her anger and led to the murder.

Chaman reportedly told the police that she got all the ideas of destroying evidence by watching crime shows, series, and movies on television. Investigations further revealed that Chaman’s lover, Monu Sharma, assisted her in disposing of the body by burying it under the floor tiles of their house. Earlier, Sharma had claimed he killed Vijay by strangling him in a fit of rage.

Police are still awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of Vijay’s death. On Wednesday, both Chaman and Sharma were produced before the Vasai court and have been remanded to police custody till August 3. The police are currently searching for the labourer who was hired to dig up the floor. Police believe Vijay was killed on July 2, based on mobile tower records showing his phone was switched off from that day.

According to the police, on July 2, Vijay returned home early and saw Chaman, who was unwell at the time, sleeping. An argument broke out after Vijay scolded her for not cooking food and taunted her about having time for her “lover Monu Sharma” but not for her husband. A police officer stated, “Vijay hit her multiple times with a mobile charger wire. They fought again in the evening. Around midnight, while both were in bed, Vijay woke up and demanded food, saying he was very hungry.”

“When Chaman refused, Vijay eventually went back to sleep. Enraged, Chaman strangled him for about two minutes until he lost consciousness. She strangled him again and, a few minutes later, realised he had died. She did not immediately inform Monu,” the officer added.

The couple’s seven-year-old son was asleep inside the house at the time of the incident. In the morning, around 7 am, Chaman called Sharma and informed him about the incident. Following this, the duo planned to dispose of the body, but due to Vijay’s large build, moving him proved impossible. They then decided to bury the body inside the house, said the officer.

The couple switched off Vijay’s phone and called his elder brother, Ajay, claiming water had seeped under the tiles and requested a labourer to dig the floor. When Ajay did not send anyone, Chaman hired a labourer and had a six-foot-long, three-foot-deep pit dug inside the house. The body was buried under the tiles, and Ajay, unaware of the murder, later visited to help fix the new flooring. Chaman also revealed to the police that her son had gone to tuition classes in the evening when she and Monu buried the body.
