A 35-year-old man was held at Mumbai airport on his arrival from the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago in the early hours of Friday for allegedly sending threat emails to former MLA Zeeshan Siddique and seeking extortion of Rs 10 crore, a police official said. Accused Mohammad Dilshad Naved, a resident of Bihar, had sent the emails in April this year and sought extortion in the name of the "D gang" (used to refer to the Dawood Ibrahim gang) after watching Youtube vidoes related to the murder of Siddique`s father and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique on October 12 last year. Seventeen years after his mysterious disappearance, authorities are still clueless about the whereabouts of Dilip Patidar, a witness in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, now legally presumed dead. Patidar, related to absconding accused Ramchandra Kalsangra, was allegedly taken away by the Maharashtra Police`s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) from here on the intervening night of November 10 and 11, 2008, for questioning. His family never heard from him again. (PTI)

Former Mumbai police commissioner and BJP leader Satya Pal Singh said on Friday that he had flagged "false detection" in some terror cases at DGP conferences during the UPA government, claiming that political motivation had guided investigation at that time, including in the Malegaon blast case. A special court in Mumbai on Thursday acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 terror case for want of reliable evidence. (PTI)
