Mumbai News LIVE Updates: Goods train descends Khandala Ghat at excessive speed; probe ordered
A goods train with around 50 wagons descended the `Ghat` or hilly section at excessive speed between Palasdari and Karjat railway stations on Mumbai-Pune route on Thursday afternoon, prompting the Central Railway (CR) to order a probe into the "major safety lapse". Videos of the speeding train also circulated on social media. The train with five locomotives was coming down to Karjat from Lonavala, descending Khandala Ghat, one of the steepest Ghat sections in the country.

Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha MP Sanjay Deshmukh suffered minor injuries after his car was hit by a tipper truck on Thursday evening, a police official said. The incident took place in Sakhara area of Digras taluka when the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP was travelling with five other party workers, he said. "The MP and others sustained minor injuries. The tipper truck driver has been arrested," the official said.

Nationalist Congress Party (SP) president Sharad Pawar has been admitted to a leading private hospital in Mumbai for follow-up medical care, a close aide informed on Thursday. The 85-year-old Rajya Sabha MP, who was discharged from Pune`s Ruby Hall Clinic on Wednesday morning, was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai hours later, he said. Pawar came to Breach Candy Hospital immediately on arrival from Pune and was admitted for follow-up medical care, said the aide.
