In a bid to ensure safe, secure, and convenient voting for women, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has set up 220 exclusive women-only polling centres for the January 15 civic elections. Additionally, 11 ‘Sakhi’ polling centres and 10 model polling stations have been prepared across the city, TMC Commissioner and Returning Officer Saurabh Rao said on Tuesday.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut also alleged that the SEC has given a licence to the BJP, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena to "distribute money door-to-door". The official public canvassing for the polls ended on Tuesday evening, but the SEC said that candidates can visit voters` homes, provided the number of persons does not exceed five, and there is no use of microphones.
