A fire broke out in scrap school material stored in the staircase area on the sixth floor of a school building in Thane on Saturday evening, officials said. According to the Thane Municipal Corporation's Disaster Management Cell, the incident was reported at 6.14 pm at Saraswati Mandir Vidya Sankul, located opposite Jupiter Scan Centre on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Bhaskar Colony, Naupada. The fire was confined to discarded school materials, including wooden benches, plywood sheets, old books and other scrap items stored in the staircase area of the ground-plus-six-storey building. No injuries were reported in the incident. Following the alert, personnel from the fire brigade, disaster management cell, Naupada police and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) rushed to the spot. Two fire engines and a disaster management pickup vehicle were deployed for the operation. The blaze was completely extinguished at 7.42 pm with the help of fire brigade personnel and disaster management officials. Authorities said the situation is under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
