Mumbai Crime: California weed syndicate busted at international cargo airport
A major drug syndicate which was supplying large quantities of marijuana from California to India by concealing the contraband in various household items has been busted by the Airport Special Cargo Commissionerate at the International Courier Terminal. In the past week, customs officers have in several such interceptions seized North American marijuana worth Rs 14 crore. A total of three accused, including the mastermind, have been arrested in connection with the case so far.

Why is biomedical waste plant still in our neighbourhood, ask Govandi residents
As they are forced to inhale thick black smoke released by the city’s lone biomedical waste treatment plant at Govandi every day, residents living in its vicinity have threatened to move the National Green Tribunal against the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board if the facility is not shifted out of the city limits by this month-end. Earlier, the state had ordered the plant to be moved out of Mumbai limits by February 2022.

Ahead of monsoon, BMC completes only one-third of its drain-cleaning target
With little over a month to go before the monsoon hits the city, the BMC has completed just 34 per cent of its drain-cleaning target. While civic chief Iqbal Singh Chahal had asked his teams to get nullahs cleaned in double shifts and finish the work by May 15, it is unlikely that it would be done even by May 31.

Allow loudspeakers at the Shirdi Sai Temple: Jama Masjid's plea to local cops
Amid the ongoing loudspeaker row, Muslims in Shirdi have requested the local police and civic authorities to allow the Saibaba temple to use loudspeakers to amplify the aartis. Expressing their disappointment in the Shirdi Saibaba Sansthan Trust’s decision to stop using loudspeakers, members of Shirdi’s Jama Masjid and local representatives of the Muslim community have written to the authorities on it.

Mumbai Crime: Former Under-19 Haryana cricketer held for duping people
A former cricketer, who used to play for Haryana Under-19s and was even included in the IPL auction list in 2018, was arrested by Juhu police on May 5 for allegedly cheating a city-based businessman of Rs 6 lakh by offering to get him expensive watches and mobile phones at a cheap rate. The accused, Mrinank Singh, 23, allegedly also duped several hotels by not paying for his stays, claiming he was a Mumbai Indians player and that the team manager would clear his tab.
