Ganesh Khankar was named as the leader of the ruling alliance after the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the recently concluded BMC elections 2026, securing 89 corporator seats

The announcement was made at the BMC headquarters, where both the BJP and the Shiv Sena formally registered their elected representatives

Apart from Khankar, Shiv Sena also appointed Amey Ghole as their leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. Ghole is an elected corporator from Ward 178, Matunga, and will lead the Shiv Sena in the civic body

Ghole is a municipal corporator from Ward 178 (Matunga) who had earlier chaired the BMC health committee. He also holds the position of general secretary in Yuva Sena

The results of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections were officially declared on January 16, reflecting significant gains for the BJP and Shiv Sena

Ganesh Khankar has in the past has been a massive contribution to the party's organisational works. He is likely to play a key role in managing the Shinde faction in the BMC
