The Minority Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a protest at the party’s state office in Nariman Point on April 18

Out of 528 members present, 298 voted in favour while 230 opposed it. The bill fell short of the required two-thirds majority needed for a constitutional amendment

The government has maintained that the bill is aimed at empowering women in politics and blamed the Opposition its failure in being passed in Lok Sabha

The Congress party worker raised slogans calling for swift action to ensure 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies

Opposition parties have accused the government of linking the women’s reservation issue with constituency delimitation

They alleged that it could alter the electoral balance and reduce representation of southern states

Across party lines, the issue has sparked strong reactions, with different groups calling either for immediate implementation or raising concerns about its implications
