The protesters raised concerns over the functioning of the poll panel and sought greater transparency and accountability in the electoral process

The protest was linked to the ongoing controversy surrounding the SIR of electoral rolls

The Election Commission has faced criticism from Opposition, while the poll body has maintained that its decisions are based on the applicable electoral procedures

Congress has raised concerns over reported objections by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi to some decisions linked to the electoral-roll exercise

Responding, the Election Commission has asserted that all its official orders, decisions and administrative directions carry full legal sanctions and that differing views and observations are a normal part of deliberation in any institution

In a statement following a news report, the EC had earlier said that suggestions given by the Commissioners were for further improving the electoral processes

Meanwhile, protests have intensified against Kumar in the recent days
