A fire broke out early Monday morning at a garments showroom on Peddar Road in South Mumbai. The blaze was reported around 6:30 AM at the Riyaz Ganji showroom located in the Sukhshanti building. (PICS/DWEEP BANE)

The showroom was shut at the time, which prevented any injuries. Extensive damage was caused to stock including garments, wiring, cameras, wooden partitions and hangers.

Firefighters used multiple hose lines and broke through a back entrance to control the flames. More than five fire tenders were deployed to the site to tackle the blaze.

Nineteen people trapped on the terrace due to heavy smoke were safely rescued. Two dogs and one cat were also saved from the premises by emergency teams.

The fire was brought under control after coordinated efforts by the fire brigade. Maharashtra minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha visited the site shortly after the incident.
