From Girgaum Chowpatty and Worli to BMC-created artificial ponds in neighbourhoods such as Thakur Village, Kandivali East, the city saw a mix of traditional and eco-friendly immersions

The fifth day, also known as Panchami, saw devotees carrying their idols to designated immersion locations

Before the immersion, families and devotees offered prayers and performed rituals as they prepared to bid farewell to Bappa

According to different traditions, Ganesh idols are immersed on the one-and-a-half-day, third, fifth, sixth and seventh days, as well as on Anant Chaturdashi, the concluding day of the festival

The atmosphere at the immersion points was marked by devotional songs, chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ and emotional moments as devotees prepared to part with their idols

For many devotees, the fifth-day Visarjan marked an emotional moment as they said goodbye to their beloved deity after days of prayers and celebrations

With the chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ filling the air, devotees accompanied their idols to the immersion points and took part in the farewell rituals

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has created artificial ponds at several locations across Mumbai to facilitate idol immersion and encourage environmentally friendly celebrations

Families were seen carrying their idols towards immersion points, with some devotees performing aarti and offering flowers before the final farewell

Children and elderly family members also joined the processions in several areas

With prayers, chants and tears, devotees said goodbye to Bappa, carrying with them the memories of the festival and the hope of welcoming him back next year with renewed faith and devotion

Before the immersion, devotees performed the final aarti and offered flowers, sweets and prayers to Lord Ganesha

Many were seen with folded hands as they sought Bappa's blessings and expressed their gratitude for his presence in their homes and communities

The immersion symbolises the farewell of Lord Ganesha, but devotees also believe that Bappa will return the following year

The traditional chant, “pudhchya varshi lavkar ya”, expresses this hope and adds a sense of anticipation to the emotional farewell
