Earlier in the day, Mumbai Police denied claims that Ravindra Wakode had been detained at Azad Maidan to prevent him from submitting a memorandum to the institute’s director, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) saying he was continuing his protest as usual. The clarification came after Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) Spokesperson Anish Gawande claimed in a post on X that Mumbai Police had detained Wakode’s father to stop him from visiting IIT-Bombay and submitting a memorandum to Director Shireesh Kedare

“Sahil Wakode's father has been detained at Azad Maidan by the Mumbai Police to prevent him from going to IIT Bombay to submit a memorandum to Director Shireesh Kedare. The cowardice of BJP governments is on full display across India today,” Gawande wrote

Responding to the claim, the DCP (Zone 1) said, “No, he is sitting on protest as usual in Azad Maidan"

Wakode’s parents have been protesting at Azad Maidan for 13 days, demanding an independent probe into their son’s death and accountability from IIT-Bombay
