Raj Thackeray's wife Sharmila Thackeray and their daughter Urvashi also attended the gathering

Former Mumbai mayor Shardah Jadhav was also seen among the crowd, while Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sushama Andhare was seen helping senior party leader Kishori Pednekar shield herself from the afternoon sun during the public meeting

The march ended with a public meeting near the BMC headquarters, where several Opposition leaders addressed supporters

Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat and NCP (SP) leaders Jayant Patil and Jitendra Awhad were among those who attended the protest

The participation of leaders from the Congress and NCP (SP) turned the protest into a broader Opposition demonstration against the Election Commission

The protest was held against CEC Gyanesh Kumar and over alleged irregularities in the SIR exercise

Workers and supporters of the MNS, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP), Congress and Peasants and Workers Party of India participated in the march

The organisers had asked participants to carry the national flag rather than party flags, presenting the march as a broader campaign on electoral issues

The protest comes amid an ongoing political dispute over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Maharashtra

Opposition parties have questioned the exercise and demanded the resignation or removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar

The Election Commission, however, has maintained that decisions taken by the three-member commission, including those concerning SIR, were unanimous

The Mumbai protest followed the Cockroach Janta Party's demonstration at Shivaji Park on October 2, which also called for Kumar's resignation

The march began at Metro Cinema and culminated near the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation headquarters, where the leaders addressed a public meeting

Party flags were not allowed in the march, and the participants were asked to carry only the national tricolour

Uddhav Thackeray, meanwhile, accused the Election Commission of acting in favour of the ruling BJP, a claim that is part of the Opposition's criticism of the poll body

Raj Thackeray demanded that the SIR exercise in Maharashtra be scrapped and also called for future elections to be conducted using ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines
