According to Harshada, the Mumbai Police searched her home in connection with a kite-flying event held on September 15. The event, she said, was organised to show solidarity with Palestinian children amid the war in Gaza. She alleged that five group members who were present at her house during the search were not allowed to leave while the operation was underway

Protesters said the action amounted to intimidation of people expressing support for Palestine

The group used the Azad Maidan protest to demand an end to alleged harassment of activists linked to the kite-flying programme and related solidarity work

Participants stood with placards and also demanded justice for the citizens of Gaza

The protesters said that questioning volunteers and searching a student’s home after such an event had a chilling effect on others who wanted to take part
