The recurring flooding at the Andheri subway offers a stark reminder of Mumbai's annual monsoon challenge, where intense rainfall overwhelms drainage systems and disrupts daily life.

The closure of the waterlogged Andheri subway brought traffic between Andheri East and Andheri West to a crawl, with vehicles backed up on key approach roads and commuters experiencing lengthy delays

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai till Saturday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. 

Among the highest rainfall recorded across Mumbai, Mankhurd received 170.4 mm, followed by Chembur (169 mm), Govandi (163 mm) and Byculla (162.52 mm). Other areas that witnessed heavy rainfall included Mumbai Central (142.43 mm), Bandra Kurla Complex (132.4 mm), Borivali (126 mm), Lower Parel (125.4 mm) and Dindoshi (123 mm). Visuals showed slow-moving traffic as rain lashed the corridor. 

Heavy showers have been reported from western suburbs, including Goregaon, Jogeshwari, Malad, Borivali and Mulund, and eastern suburbs such as Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Kurla. Waterlogging has been reported from several low-lying areas.

For some districts, the IMD has predicted thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall and gusty winds at isolated places.

Authorities have also warned of high tides exceeding 4.2 metres, advising residents, particularly those living in low-lying and coastal areas, to remain alert and follow official advisories.
