From dream to reality: Mumbai-Pune Missing Link captured in stunning images

The long-awaited Mumbai-Pune link will finally be inaugurated shortly on the occasion of Maharashtra Day. The link comprises two tunnels, one of which is among the world’s widest. There are also two cable-stayed bridges. The total distance from Mumbai to Pune will now be 6 km less and the travel time reduced by 20-25 minutes. The project also includes two cable-stayed bridges of 650 metres and 950 metres, built by Afcons Infrastructure. The tallest pylon of the cable-stayed bridge stands at 184 metres

The Missing Link project incorporates state-of-the-art technology and safety systems. The tunnels are equipped with a water mist fire suppression system, fire hydrants, linear heat detection, voice evacuation system, and an advanced tunnel ventilation system

A comprehensive Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), surveillance cameras, and SOS emergency response points ensure round-the-clock monitoring and quick incident response

An MSRDC official said, “We are making every effort to open the Missing Link project to the public by late evening on May 1. However, if the dismantling of the inauguration pandal is delayed, the opening may be pushed to May 2.”
