The early onset of monsoon in Kerala signifies that Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra should expect heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the coming days
IMD, while issuing a warning at 10:20 am on May 25, 2025, said that there is a chance of intense spells of rain. Heavy to moderate showers are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Raigad during the next 3–4 hours
IMD also stated that there is a high possibility of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong winds in some areas. The weather agency has requested people to take all the necessary precautions while moving out of their homes
Mumbai experienced an unusual May this year with significantly higher rainfall as compared to its long period average
The pre-monsoon showers in Mumbai during May resulted in a surplus of over 700 per cent rainfall from its long period average for the month
Furthermore, the Mumbai suburban district recorded 677 per cent surplus as compared to the region's actual long period average rainfall
A depression system, which crossed near Ratnagiri and Dapoli, brought heavy to very heavy rainfall to several regions in Maharashtra. The weather office also alerted coastal districts and warned fishermen against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions
Furthermore, IMD also stated that heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is anticipated in certain areas of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal
