The elevated deck is 11.75-metres long and 10.10-metres wide. It has staircase at platforms no 3 and 4, which connect the north foot overbridge 

The structure has been built by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation to decongest commuter crowds at the station

Sources said Khar is also one of the stations that will get a commercial and office space above it

The revamp of Khar Station can take the load off Bandra Station as Khar has already been linked with Bandra Terminus through a 44-m-long and 6-m-wide footover bridge at a cost of Rs 4.55 crore by the Western Railway

With a payback period of five and seven years, respectively, Khar Road and Bhayander stations on the western line were found feasible by the consultant having potential for retail/food and beverage outlets 

"The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation is remodelling smaller stations and upgrading them for future use as the railway lines and corridors are set to expand, with more and more passengers expected to use them," an MRVC spokesperson said

 The station will also have another booking office

 The Rs 80-crore project failed to meet the June deadline set for completion. However, the elevated deck is set to decongest the platforms and provide a smoother travel for commuters

Among the planned works are a 10-metre mid-deck, a booking office on it, a wider 22.5 m deck space for passenger circulation, and connections to all foot overbridges and toilet blocks

In addition to this, the middle bridge will be extended and the existing 4.5-m bridge will be replaced with a 6-m bridge and a 7-m skywalk

The station will also have four escalators and elevators each along with an added home platform for the harbour line

At present, linking together small FOBs, Western Railway (WR) has a 1.2-km FOB or skywalk that links the Churchgate-end of Khar suburban station to the Churchgate end of Bandra Terminus. It traverses the entire length of the terminus, passing over platform 1
