Organised by the Tandem Cyclist Club, the devotional-spiritual cycling pilgrimage began at Shivaji Park’s Shri Samarth Vyayam Mandir and will conclude in Pandharpur on July 12

The group comprises 10 cyclists riding five tandem bicycles, with each cycle carrying a sighted cyclist and a visually impaired rider

The 450-km journey will take them through Nashik and Ahilyanagar before reaching Pandharpur

A tandem bicycle has two seats arranged one behind the other. The front rider, known as the pilot or captain, steers the cycle, while the visually impaired cyclist occupies the rear seat. Both riders pedal together, requiring coordination, trust and synchronisation

As the cyclists began their journey, the atmosphere at Shivaji Park was filled with excitement and encouragement

Supporters cheered for the riders as an auspicious coconut was broken before the group began their ride towards Pandharpur

The cyclists said complete trust and coordination between the visually impaired riders and their sighted pilots are essential for completing the journey

Through the Tandem Cycle Wari, participants aim to promote inclusion, equality and self-confidence among visually impaired individuals.
