Krishnakant Upadhyay, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) - Zone 9, told media that Innova first hit a Mercedes Benz car about 100 metres before the toll booth on northbound lane.

The driver of the Innova tried to escape from the spot and sped away, the DCP said.

A case is being registered against the driver of the Innova car on the basis of preliminary information, the officials added.

The driver, who has been identified as Mohammed Sarfaraz Shaikh, has been charged under Section 304 (2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
