836 public toilets for 57 Lakh women in Mumbai

BMC has earmarked Rs 75 lakh this fiscal to undertake construction of more public toilets exclusively for women and is currently scouting for locations to construct them
The bustling metropolis of Mumbai, which has 57,41,632 females - as per the 2011 Census figures and scores of female visitors - has just 836 public toilets reserved exclusively for them in the city. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) earmarked funds worth Rs 75 lakh for the current financial year to undertake construction of more toilets for women. And the civic body is now on the lookout for suitable locations to construct them.

Of the 10,900 public toilets built by the BMC in the city, about 50 per cent are available for women with separate entrances for them
