In order to provide relief to air-passengers shelling out hefty sums to private taxis ferrying them to and fro from the airport, the operator for dedicated luxury bus service from the airport Urban Mass Transport Company (UMTC) has proposed to fix the bus fare at half the amount shelled out for a radio taxi.

The fleet is used to ply between the airport and the city </td></tr></tbody></table> "We have proposed a fare of Rs 7.5 per kilometre for the airport bus service expected to flag off at the yearend or beginning of 2010. The fare will be half the amount charged by the radio taxis in the city. For a distance of 15 kilometre, a radio taxi would charge Rs 225 while the bus meter will come to only Rs 115," said UMTC's Director OP Agarwal. The fare structure proposed by UMTC will be put before the Delhi government for its final approval and buses on two routes will start plying. The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) had in June announced to start a high quality bus service from various areas of the Capital to the airport to tackle the growing congestion in the area and it also signed an MoU with Urban Mass Transport Company (UMTC), which will manage and operate the service. On pilot basis, two routes have been selected between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and IGI Airport and another, Anand Vihar ISBT and airport. The pilot project will take off with a fleet of 30 buses. The drivers and conductors of the buses will be imparted training on linguistic skills. "A mechanism is being devised to provide early check-in facility to passengers. The buses will be available round the clock," said a transport department official.u00a0u00a0 The buses have been modeled on the lines of the Friendly bus in Tokyo and the Supper Shuttle in the US. Seventeen routes have been finalised, including NCR towns like Gurgaon, Faridabad and Noida. A total of 255 buses are to be bought by UMTC to maintain an interval of 20 minutes. All passengers will be served beverages on the way and the service will have baggage handling facility as well. Cheap and slick &gt;&gt;The mini buses that usually have the capacity to accommodate 14 to 15 passengers, will be modified to seat 8 to 10 passengers so that more comfortable seats as well as space for luggage is available. &gt;&gt;The buses will have electronic display board to provide flight details, power socket to charge mobiles and laptop and onboard camera for safety of passengers. &gt;&gt;'The air-conditioned buses will have TV screens and music facility as well.
