Impatient with BBMP inaction, citizens have begun placing Dilawar nesting boxes on their own to repopulate Bangalore with sparrows
Call it the Dilawar effect. Impatient with the speed at which the BBMP initiative to repopulate the city with sparrows is progressing, Bangaloreans have begun placing Dilawar nests or nesting boxes across the city on their own.
The boxes get their name after sparrow specialist Mohammed Dilawar, who has successfully used the boxes to draw the birds back into the city.
"Dilawar created 100 such nesting boxes that were sold within an hour of being brought into the city."u00a0
"We have no time to waste," said Narayan Maney, secretary, BNM group of institutions, who was among citizens who bought the Dilawar boxes.
"Corporators, who are supposed to solve our problems are being caught for wrongdoing by the Lokayukta.

Besides encouraging their habitat, these nesting boxes, also has feeder option to serve birds with broken rice and millets.
