Kendrapara (Odisha): In the latest instance of human-animal conflict, four farmers were injured as wild boars attacked them at Srichandanpur village in Odisha's Kendrapara district.

The farmers were cutting crop near the forest area on Monday when wild boars strayed in the field. The boars turned violent while being chased away and attacked the farmers, a forest official said.

The animals might have sneaked in to eat vegetable plants and crops as the village is located close to forest areas and their habitation corridors, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Bimal Prasanna Acharya said.

The injured were hospitalised and are stated to be out of danger. The forest department is bearing the cost of treatment and will also provide compensation to the injured person's families, he said.

Forest personnel have begun maintaining night watch in the village. The department has constituted two night vigil squads to drive away the wild boar and the villagers have been advised to avoid movement during night, officials said.
