On Thursday, the Kerala government directed the state government and the police to give protection to employees of Muthoot Finance who report to work. Muthoot Finance is a leading non-banking financial company. The interim relief comes from the Kerala High Court after the management of Muthoot Finance approached it as, since August 20, a small section of its staff was on strike with support from the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-backed Centre for Indian Trade Union (CITU).

According to sources, the protestors create problems when the non-striking employees report to work and try to enter the office. The protesting employees have been demanding to be allowed to take part in trade union activities and have also demanded equality in the salary structure of the company.
A video which has gone viral shows a woman employee of the Kottayam branch being prevented from opening the office entrance has taken the internet by storm. In the viral video, a man, who claims to be a CITU worker is seen threatening the woman that he would kill her and her husband if she enters the building and reports to work.

Muthoot Finance, which is one of the leading non-banking financial company, has nearly 3,600 branches spread across the country. It has about 600 branches in Kerala itself and employs over 30,000 people across the country.

After the news was raked up by the media persons, he Kerala government intervened and called for conciliation talks which will be held on next Monday. The meeting will be held with State Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan mediating the talks.
