Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace, was on Friday fondly remembered on his 140th birth anniversary with leaders cutting across the political spectrum paying homage to him.

Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace, was on Friday fondly remembered on his 140th birth anniversary with leaders cutting across the political spectrum paying homage to him.

Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition LK Advani were among the prominent persons who offered floral tributes at Rajghat, the memorial of the Mahatma, here.


External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, Defence Minister AK Antony, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Ministers of State Shashi Tharoor and Krishna Tirath also visited the memorial to offer their respects.



US Ambassador Timothy G Roemer also offered floral tributes at Rajghat. A number of foreign dignitaries were also present. Leaders of various religions also offered prayers at the samadhi.
