As the number of offices at Hinjewadi IT Park increases, along with vehicles, the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Sarang Awad, has highlighted the need to streamline traffic flow in the area to the district collector. Last week, Awad handed over a file to the collector’s office, bringing to their notice the issues that require urgent attention. In the file, he cited the reasons for the increasing traffic in the IT Park, requesting better infrastructure in the area.

“Currently, construction is being carried out at Phase 2 and 3 of the park and once the work is complete, more companies will set up their offices, increasing the number of vehicles. We are expecting the number to go up to 8 lakh and, therefore, have asked authorities to prepare for it in advance so that traffic snarls can be averted,” said Awad. The Hinjewadi IT Park is spread over 684 hectares and is divided into three phases, with more than 100 companies in the area.

“We have forwarded a proposal to construct the road currently under development plan, from Shivaji Chowk to Mann village that goes to Lavasa, so that traffic can be diverted from the other side. Presently, there is only one road, which handles 3.5 lakh vehicles every day.
