In the end, merit took precedence over machinations. None of the 77 youngsters involved in the 'backdoor admissions' controversy at Sir Parshurambhau (SP) College managed to get their way, as in a special meeting conducted yesterday, the institute rejected all the names for enrolment to Std XI.
“We only entertain those students who have original SSC marksheets and school-leaving certificates. In all, 25 junior colleges participated in the admission process and, without any choice, the students accepted the institutes, and they were picked according to their merit,” Balasaheb Owhal, assistant director (education), said.
