Oil pilferage racket busted by civil supplies department in Thane

A flying squad of the civil supplies department raided a eatery on the Bombay-Ahmedabad highway and seized oil worth Rs 5.37 crore and more than two dozen tankers, department sources said.

A senior department official said that they had received frequent complaints that oil transported from HPCL and BPCL to Gujarat and other states was pilfered en route and sold in the market.
Based on a tip-off, officials raided the Jai Ambe Dhabha, in the early hours of Tuesday, where the oil was being pilfered from as many as 26 tankers by breaking their seals open.
