Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala government on Monday announced Rs five lakh compensation to the family of a 50-year old tribal man, who was trampled to death by a wild elephant in high range Wayanad recently.

Family members of Gopi alias Surendran of Marmala tribal settlement in Kenichira in Wayanad would get Rs five lakh as compensation and an insurance amount of Rs one lakh, state Forest Minister K Raju said.


"Besides Rs five lakh compensation, steps have already been taken to get the family the insurance amount of Rs one lakh," he said in a release here.

A sum of Rs 25,000 was sanctioned for the cremation expenses, the release added.
