New Delhi: Six parties of Janata Parivar on Wednesday decided to merge and form a new party with Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh as its president.

The decision was announced by Janata Dal-United president Sharad Yadav after a meeting of six parties that included Janata Dal-Secular, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Indian National Lok Dal and Samajwadi Janata Party.
On Tuesday, JD-U leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had told reporters in the national capital, "We are hopeful of an announcement on Wednesday. We have authorised Mulayamji for this merger."
The meeting comes ahead of the Bihar assembly polls scheduled for later this year.
