No shortcuts: The high-tech track at the Alandi RTO will be equipped with CCTV surveillance, which will record every move or turn taken by the candidate.
The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has set the wheels in motion for the long-pending automated driving test track, and has prepared a detailed report on the project after surveying the area for two months.

Testing their skills
The RTO has come up with this strategic move to reduce the number of road accidents caused by untrained drivers.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer Anil Valiv said, “The Pune RTO at Alandi will be constructing two tracks for two-wheelers and one track for four-wheelers.
The driving tests of the candidates will be recorded and the data will be saved on a central server. The results will be immediately sent to the licence department, and only those who have passed the test will get their driving licences.”
The applicants can also request a copy recording of their driving test on a compact disc. There will be balance strips and turning sections to judge the rider/driver’s skills.
“The track will be built as per international standards; lack of human involvement will result in zero mistakes. We will also have headlight aligners for heavy vehicles, which will prevent accidents from occuring at night. We are positive that the automated testing track will be ready by the end of December this year,” Valiv added.
